故事发生在春天的弗洛里达海滩上，在这里，一只没有母亲照料的小海龟出生了。凭借着强烈的求生意志，小海龟爬过了危机重重的沙滩，纵身跃入海中，他的目的地是位于非洲的亚速尔群岛。                                                                      　　小海龟实在是太过弱小了，他没有任何可以保护自己的手段，一路上，他只有和鱼群一起不断的躲在沿途的海草中，以规避猎食者的捕杀。除了虎视眈眈的猎食者外，小海龟还要面对很多的困难，比如人类乱丢的塑料袋，比如凶猛的大青鲨，比如强劲有力的加拿大巨浪。幸运的是，小海龟每一次都凭借着智慧或是本能逃过了危险，随着时间的流逝，小海龟渐渐长大了。
